SWIM-A-CROSS: REGISTRATION OPEN
NOW!

Last year's Swim-A-Cross was a big success, and continues
to be a great tool to learn water safety, teambuilding, fundraising,
and just plain have some fun! Last year, twenty-five teams swam for the
Red Cross, getting generous sponsorships for every lap they swam, and
donating half the proceeds to support this local Red Cross chapter. The
other half was kept for their swim club and supported their efforts.
Way to go! Opportunities
to participate have been expanded this year to young adult, adult and
senior swim clubs in our 9-county service area. Though
the event has previously been solely for youth clubs, we want to get
everyone involved! Six teams with over 1,200 swimmers have already
signed up-Anderson Mill Barracudas, Balcones Woods Swim Team, Lago
Vista Aquatics, Inc., Canyon Creek Cyclones, Fosters Mill/Kings Point
Waves, Lakeway Lakers-with more teams taking the plunge every day!
There's still time to sign up. Registration forms are also available
online at
www.centex.redcross.org/events/swimacross.php. We (and Longfellow the Whale) look forward to seeing you
this summer!

NEW LEADERSHIP AT AMERICAN RED CROSS OF CENTRAL TEXAS!
Elaine Acker has been
named as our new CEO to replace Derrick Chubbs, who has been appointed

Louisiana, and Mississippi. As a member of the American National Red
Cross executive team, he will provide strategic vision, planning and
direction to Regional Executives. Congratulations to both!
Steve J. Hailey is our new Director of Emergency Services! Mr. Hailey has
over 20+ years of progressive experience in the public safety and
disaster recovery arena. After beginning his career as a flight medic

multiple federal, state, and local public safety agencies and
organizations. His prior experience includes working for Avaya,
Inc. as the Director of Emergency Preparedness and Response. Prior
to joining Avaya, Mr. Hailey held information
