Red Cross paid and volunteer staff provide emergency-related services to members of the U.S. armed forces, veterans, their families and civilians. Some of these services include: Making our Red Cross around-the-clock, around-the-world emergency communication network available to the men and women of our armed forces and their families during times of personal emergencies. Our chapter provides Service to the Armed Forces 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please call 512-928-4271 and select option 1.
Emergency Communications
When a death, serious illness, birth of a child or another critical event makes communication urgent, the Red Cross can help get an emergency message to a family member in the military. Factual information is communicated to service members and military authorities in an expedient and confidential manner. The information provided aids military authorities in processing emergency leave and extension requests for the service member.
Counseling
Limited personal and family counseling is available and appropriate referrals are provided for non-crisis situations.
Disaster Preparedness Education
A variety of disaster education materials are available to help service members and their families better prepare for emergencies. Request a disaster preparedness presentation for your group or organization.
Financial Aid/General
Service members and their families can experience unique financial problems. These may include a delayed pay allotment, financial neglect of family members or emergency travel expenses. The American Red Cross can help to resolve these problems through referrals to other appropriate resources and coordinating loans from military aid societies.
