Disaster Services
- Administrator On Call: Answers emergency calls to the chapter and dispatches the responding volunteers. This job can be performed from home.
- Client Caseworker: Works with disaster victims to help them move forward and recover. This job can be performed at the Chapter or on the scene of large disasters.
- Services to the Armed Forces Caseworker: Works with families of deployed military personnel to arrange emergency communication and financial assistance. This job is performed at the Chapter.
- Direct Services: Works directly with disaster clients.
- Disaster Action Team: Trained volunteers are placed at the scene of a disaster to provide immediate, identifiable emergency services to individuals and families.
- Shelter Worker: Provide immediate, identifiable care on a chapter administered relief operation through effectively and resistively managing shelter operations as a team to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.
- Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) Driver: During a disaster relief operation, provide on site support in a mobile or fixed ERV for feeding and caring for persons affected by a disaster.
- Family Services Caseworker: Interviewing, identifying, and initiating resolutions to meet the disaster-caused needs of individuals and families.
- Disaster Welfare Inquiry: Responsible for responding to inquiries about the health and welfare of individuals and families within the disaster affected area.
- Disaster Mental Health Worker: Responsible for mental healthcare on a disaster relief operation or may volunteer as a mental health care provider as part of a referral network. Only for licensed professionals with Masters Degree.
- Disaster Health Services: Licensed health professionals provide emergency and preventative health services to people affected by the disaster. Those who are not health professionals can take the Overview class as a home study, which will help them to understand how Disaster Health Services relate to the other functions.
- Indirect Services: Works behind the scene to ensure that the functions working directly with clients have the resources needed to address the needs of the clients and staff.
- Communications: Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of the communication systems within the disaster operation.
- Damage Assessment: Responsible for determining the size and scope of the disaster and the level of damage sustained by dwellings within the affected area. Develops and distributes statistical data related to effects of the disaster and the demographics of the affected population.
- Local Disaster Volunteers (LDV): Responsible for identifying and recruiting local volunteers to support other functions on a disaster relief operation.
- Logistics: During a disaster relief operation, assist in the procurement, storing and distributing supplies and material required for the relief operation.
- Records & Reports: Responsible for the control and processing of Disbursing Order forms, for the maintenance of files of the Disaster Registration and case Record forms, and for the compilation of statistics related to the disaster operation staff.
- Staffing: Responsible for the recruitment, placement, administration, support, and recognition of paid and volunteer staff assigned to the disaster relief operation.
- Training: Responsible for providing for the orientation of all operation staff and for the delivery of refresher or new training, or both, to functional personnel assigned to the disaster operation.
- External Support Services: Works with other organizations and agency external to the Red Cross.
- Public Affairs: Responsible for developing and implementing a system of providing information about services available to disaster victims, for providing information to the general public about services, for the proper identification of Red Cross staff and facilities, for liaison with all media, and for general support of the operation.
- Chapter Liaison: Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with chapters in the affected area, and for keeping chapter leadership, operational leadership, and personnel informed about the progress of the operation, problems encountered, and any concerns expressed by either party.
- Government Liaison: Responsible for developing and maintaining liaison with federal, state and local authorities and government units.
- Human Relations Liaison: Responsible for the development of community reactions in the affected area, for relationships with minority segments of the community, for resolution of grievances related to the delivery of services, for the development of advisory committees, and for support to the local chapter in the area of human relations.
- Labor Liaison: Responsible for the recruitment of labor and trade union volunteer personnel for assignment to the disaster operation, and for liaison between labor and trade unions and the Red Cross.
- Voluntary Agencies Liaison: Responsible for developing and maintaining liaison with other voluntary organizations, and for the recruitment and utilization of such volunteers on the operation.

Emergency Services: As a member of a Red Cross Disaster Action Team, you'll be among the first to arrive at the scene of a local disaster -- typically a house or apartment fire. You'll bring comfort to people affected by the disaster, assess the damage to their homes and help meet their immediate needs for food, clothing, shelter, health services and mental health counselling.
